Well, this trip is not an easy one — we’ll be crossing the Drake Passage twice, which means 4–6 days of sailing through one of the most challenging seas in the world each way. But then, once we reach Antarctica, it’s all about the good stuff — two weeks of calm exploration without the heavy seas.

Selma has already made this voyage more than 50 times — that’s over 100 Drake crossings! Quite an impressive record of experience. On board, there’s always a professional crew of three sailors. They can handle the voyage on their own — but this is a sailing expedition, so you’ll take part in watches, navigation, cooking, and more. You’ll even take the helm in the Drake Passage to truly feel what the first explorers experienced.

In the end, there’s no need for any prior sailing experience — the professional crew will teach you everything you need to know. In fact, many of our participants have never been on a sailboat before!

Selma Expedityions has six cabins, each with two bunk beds - ordinary size. Once your reservation is confirmed and booked, you will receive an information sheet specifying your assigned bunk.

We’ll eat well and stay healthy! On board, we always have plenty of fresh vegetables, fruits, various provisions, and drinks — the only limitation is the availability of products in Argentina, which isn’t always ideal. All meals will be prepared together, according to the watch schedule. During the voyage, the general rule is that alcohol consumption is not allowed — the captain may make an exception, but only occasionally and when conditions are favorable.

Certainly! On board, we have two bathrooms with showers. Be prepared — they’re not the typical kind! The layout has been carefully designed to make them easy and safe to use even in rough conditions. It's important to note that the water supply may be limited due to the nature of our journey. We kindly ask for your cooperation in adapting and using water judiciously during your time onboard.

Ask us for our survey / seaworthy certificates which are all kept onboard. Selma Expeditions is registered as a commercial vessel, Category 0 (zero – Unrestricted), type expedition.

Please be advised that the staircases leading to the living quarters have steep stairs, although they are equipped with sturdy railings for your safety. It is important to note that transfers between land and yacht is facilitated by zodiac boats, as there are no harbors available. Consequently, there won't be a traditional gangway for boarding or disembarking. This expedition requires good health and physical fitness.

During the cruise, there is access to high-speed internet available, although it may be limited to certain hours. Also, please note that there is no GSM coverage onboard or in any other place.

Temperatures in the area typically range between 2 and 12°C (35-54°F), with minimal rainfall. While it can be windy at times, clear and calm days can bring forth strong sunlight. The prevailing high-pressure systems over antarctica often result in calm weather conditions.

Yes! The Drake Passage demands proper sailing time — we want to be efficient and reach the Antarctic Peninsula as quickly as possible. Once in Antarctica, everything slows down — it’s time for calm exploration, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable encounters with wildlife.

If you have concerns about seasickness, it is advisable to take precautions. While we cannot guarantee that you won't experience seasickness, it's better to be prepared and take preventative measures, especially if you haven't been at sea before.

It's important to note that the sea in Antarctica is generally very calm, reducing the likelihood of experiencing seasickness. However, everyone's tolerance varies, and it's better to err on the side of caution. Don't let the fear of seasickness overshadow your excitement for the upcoming cruise.

Power for charging batteries is readily available throughout the journey, with standard EU sockets provided onboard. You can conveniently charge your devices whenever needed, ensuring that you stay connected and powered up during the trip.
