Bijagos Archipelago

A little-known group of around 88 islands off the west coast of Africa, belonging to Guinea-Bissau. It is one of the wildest and most authentic places in all of West Africa – both in terms of nature and culture.

The area is home to rare manatees and hippos, nesting sea turtles, diverse monkeys, huge seasonal bird migrations, as well as crocodiles and sharks, and it offers great fishing opportunities.

We start and finish the voyage in the capital city of The Gambia – Banjul. Please book your flights to and from Banjul International Airport (BJL).

Sail without prejudice and try to leave stereotypes behind.

The countries we will visit are among the poorest regions in the world, with over 50% of the population living below the poverty line.

We’ll encounter tribes deeply rooted in animist beliefs—communities that have resisted the pressures of the modern world, remaining open and friendly, yet profoundly different in terms of culture and worldview.

This voyage is a journey deep into Africa and a rare opportunity to experience up close one of the last truly authentic communities in this part of the world.

Expedition Itinerary

Day 1  – Let`s get started!

We begin in Banjul with provisioning and border clearance.

The yacht will be moored on the Gambia River, and we’ll begin our journey right from its mouth, exploring the attractions it offers. We’ll also get to know The Gambia a bit more closely.

This is only a sample itinerary — the actual sailing schedule and what we see, and when, will depend on weather conditions.
